Keyword Sets

A new take on the concept and design of Epsilon's Keywords application.
background
Keywords function as digital markers, capturing specific information during the impression of a client's message or ad. This data is then used for generating reports and providing insights and other metrics into the performance of digital ad campaigns.
What were solving for
Although the original request centered around migrating keywords from a legacy system, we saw this as an opportunity to reevaluate the design to better serve the integration engineers that are tasked with embedding keywords into client campaigns.
Process
I began by thoroughly exploring the legacy product to understand how keywords functioned and how integration engineers interacted with the application. Early in those discussions, I noticed that the same keywords were frequently used across multiple clients, often grouped together to capture a specific range of data. This insight led me to consider the potential for reusable keyword bundles that engineers could easily assign or customize as needed.
  • The legacy application was cluttered and visually disorganized, making it challenging for users to navigate and learn.
  • Users had to repeatedly perform the same tasks to set up keywords across different clients, leading to inefficiency.
  • Creating custom keywords required assigning an “alias,” a process that was confusing and difficult to recall in reporting.
solution
Since users frequently needed to set up the same keywords across multiple clients, we restructured the application to support keyword sets. Users can create sets with anywhere from one to 15 keywords, which are organized through a central dashboard for easy access and reuse across different clients. A custom naming feature was also introduced, allowing users to name their sets more effectively, making them easily recognizable and distinguishable for other engineers within the Keyword Set application.
